Donkey
A master and pupil went to market one day with their donkey. The path was wide, so the master walked beside the donkey while the pupil walked behind.
The pupil wanted to impress, but also to make the most of their time together. “Master, how do I become wise?” “You live.” “How do I live if I am not wise?” “Like an ass!”
The pupil pondered this seriously, and then said, “But an ass does not seem wise.” Upon hearing that, the donkey gave a huge kick.
“What have you learned?” asked the master. “To stay out of the way of a donkey's hooves,” said the pupil, still in pain.
The master nodded. “I did not teach you that. Already you are wiser than when you began.”
